Emma Theisen

Maternal Health Chair

Emma Theisen is a recent graduate of the University of Michigan, with concentrations in Neuroscience and Gender & Health on the premedical track. Emma enjoys her work as a surgical tech, and is passionate about pursuing a career in medicine dedicated to serving rural communities. During her undergraduate studies, Emma was involved in the Kidney Disease Screening and Awareness Program, Pre-Surgical Club, Circle K (Kiwanis Organization), and the American Medical Women’s Association, where she served as Professional Development Chair and Membership Chair. Emma now proudly serves as Advocacy Chair for the National Premedical Division of AMWA. During her free time, Emma enjoys volunteering as a math tutor, traveling, and working at equine therapy programs for children with special needs. During her gap year, Emma has been continuing her work as Maternal Health Chair in Community HealthEd, and as Executive Director of Lunar Doula Collective, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit pregnancy loss doula program. LDC provides free emotional, physical, and informational support to individuals experiencing miscarriage, stillbirth, or pregnancy termination in Southeast Michigan. LDC strives to honor the reproductive justice framework by creating a non judgemental space in which sexual and reproductive health equity is essential for all human beings regardless of their backgrounds or identities. Emma is passionate about her community, and is grateful for the opportunity to advocate for health education in underserved communities, as she believes that through our intentional changes in organization and action, we are able to grow our capacity to embody the world we desire.
